PauseAI Volunteer Stipends

The PauseAI volunteer stipend program is a way to support volunteers who contribute to the PauseAI community. It’s not a salary, but it can help cover some of your costs (including your time). If you’re planning on doing a one-off large event, or a time-bound project, consider applying for a Microgrant instead.

Criteria and rules

  1. Purpose and Structure
    1. Stipends are intended to support the ongoing volunteering activities of our volunteers who contribute regularly to PauseAI Global community work (rather than one-off projects, please instead apply to the Microgrants).
    2. Stipends are for €175/month for an average of 8 hours per week of volunteer work, for a six month period.
    3. The stipend covers volunteer time and expenses for things such as travel, materials or events. Any further cost reimbursement is not legally permitted.
  2. Eligibility Requirements
    1. This stipend is only available to
      1. Volunteers who have signed up via our PauseAI Global webform.
      2. Volunteers who are not US citizens or residents, PauseAI US
        manages volunteers separately from Global
      3. Volunteers who commit to averaging approximately 8 hours per week of volunteer work for a period of 6 months.
    2. Preference will be given to volunteers with a demonstrated history of consistent contributions to PauseAI Global.
  3. Strategic Allocation
    1. Stipend positions are limited by PauseAI Global’s available budget.
    2. Allocation decisions will be made in alignment with PauseAI Global’s overall strategy.
      1. Allocations may not be distributed evenly across regions or chapters.
    3. Allocation priority will be given to volunteers whose work demonstrates high impact potential for the mission.
  4. Application Process
    1. Applicants must fill out the form.
    2. Our Global leadership team will make final decisions and inform applicants within 1 month.
    3. Chapter-based stipends require coordination with chapter leadership and may require a signed chapter Memorandum of Understanding.
    4. In case of approval of the application by Global leadership, applicants must sign the Stipend agreement.
  5. Terms and conditions
    1. The stipend is tax-free in the Netherlands, but recipients are responsible for tax obligations in their country of residence.
    2. The stipend covers all volunteer costs and PauseAI Global cannot legally provide additional expense reimbursements.
  6. Accountability and Reporting
    1. Stipend recipients will be required to meet monthly with either the Organizing Director or the appropriate National Chapter Director, to discuss progress and goals.
    2. Continued stipend solutions are subject to ongoing contribution and alignment with PauseAI Global priorities.
    3. Stipends may be terminated if the stipend agreement is not honoured.
